Reasoning about Fluid Motion I: Finding Structures
نویسنده
چکیده
With the increasing role of high performance computing in attacking complex physical problems, there is an urgent need for the development of advanced computational technology to provide scientists with high-level assistance in the analysis, interpretation, and modeling of a massive amount of quantitative data. A critical area where this need is quite evident is the problem of turbulence . The overall research goal is to develop a computational environment to help scientists efficiently make observations, test hypotheses, and make conceptual models of turbulence data sets . This paper presents the intellectual challenges and progress of this project. My approach is based on two key ideas: (1) Representing fluid behavior as local interactions amongsemi-persistent flexible objects like vortices enables automatic high-level qualitative interpretation of turbulence data, and (2) Abstracting from the particular features of fluid dynamcal reasoning, I propose five core operations aggregation, classification, re-description, spatial inference, and configuration change as part of a general theory of imagistic reasoning. A new vortex-finding algorithm is also presented . "Feymann said . . . when Einstein stopped creating it was because he stopped thinking in concrete physical images and became a manipulator of equations . "

INTEGRATING CASE-BASED REASONING, KNOWLEDGE-BASED APPROACH AND TSP ALGORITHM FOR MINIMUM TOUR FINDING
Imagine you have traveled to an unfamiliar city. Before you start your daily tour around the city, you need to know a good route. In Network Theory (NT), this is the traveling salesman problem (TSP). A dynamic programming algorithm is often used for solving this problem. However, when the road network of the city is very complicated and dense, which is usually the case, it will take too long fo...
متن کاملWave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis
Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...
متن کاملOn Relational Analysis of Algebraic Datatypes
We present a technique that enables the use of finite model finding to check the satisfiability of certain formulas whose intended models are infinite. Such formulas arise when using the language of sets and relations to reason about structured values such as algebraic datatypes. The key idea of our technique is to identify a natural syntactic class of formulas in relational logic for which rea...
متن کاملComprehension of factual, nonfactual, and counterfactual conditionals by Iranian EFL learners
A considerable amount of studies have been established on conditional reasoning supporting mental model theory of propositional reasoning. Mental model theory proposed by Johnson- larid and Byrne is an explanation of someone's thought process about how something occurs in the real world. Conditional reasoning as a kind of reasoning is the way to speak about possibilities or probabilities. The a...

The utilization of passive energy dissipation systems has been created a revolution in the structural engineering industry due to their advantages. Fluid Viscous Damper (FVD) is one of these control systems. It has been used in many different industries, such as the army, aerospace, bridge, and building structures. One of the essential questions about this system is how it can combine with the ...
